Skate Park BBQ Summer 2012-2013

Our team cooked up a storm at the Maitland Council sponsored trampolining event on 22nd January. The impending storm brewing above kept the crowd numbers down.

Kiwanis Australia District Convention, August 2012

East Maitland was represented at the 44th annual Kiwanis Australia District Convention held at Penrith from 23-26 August 2012. Our group was made up of Gladys, Derek, Andrew, Jenny, Bob, Judy, Rae, Anna, Ben and Sarah.

RDA Sensory Garden BBQ

A social day out for members to show appreciation of their help both in fundraising and manual labour toward the establishment of the Sensory Garden.

Breakfast Club Garden Makeover

Our First Garden makeover project was started 1st July 2012 with great results already starting to show. With another 1 or 2 visits , this project will be completed for a greatly appreciated result.

Mothers Day Flowers

17 members contributed to the preparation and delivery of flowers to 6 nursing homes within the Maitland area on Mothers Day. The ladies were delighted to receive a card which had been prepared by local school children and a flower to brighten their day.

Division 2 Mini-convention at Tea Gardens

The Kiwanis Australia Division 2 Convention was held in Tea Gardens 10-12 February 2012.

Australia Day

Once again our Australia Day Food Affair was a great success. The members went to such lengths to bring authentic Moroccan and Spanish dishes.


The annual Breakfast/Auction was held on Sunday 4th December at the Swanson (snr) home at East Maitland.

White Ribbon Day

East Maitland Kiwanis joined with Maitland Neighbourhood Centre to promote awareness of White Ribbon Day by providing a free BBQ in Maitland Mall.

Children's Magic Far-Away Tree Party

The Magic Faraway Tree was hugely successful. 117 kids and 100 adults enjoyed Joel Howlett (famous magician) a puppet show, face painting, BBQ, fairy bread, cup cakes and fruit salad. Lots of great feedback on this family day out while enjoying the wilderness wetlands in our own backyard.

Melbourne Cup Calcutta

Our second meeting of October was moved so that our annual Melbourne Cup Calcutta could be held on the eve of the big day.

Child Protection Week

The Maitland neighbourhood centre today celebrated Child Protection Week with a huge party including two jumping castles and a merry-go-round.

East Maitland Kiwanis Girls Celebrate Will and Kate's Big Day

29th April 2011, and some of the girls from East Maitland Kiwanis helped celebrate Will and Kate's big day with dinner at Viet King and sweets later in the evening at Rae's place.

Largs Hoe Down 2011

The Largs How Down on 9th April, hosted by Barb and Vic Unicomb, was a great success, raising $601

Amazing Race 2011

On the 2 April 2011 the National Trust Heritage Festival 2011 was launched with the Amazing Race. The East Maitland Kiwanis organised the Amazing Race to raise funds for the University's Vera Deacon Regional History Fund and Lifeline. Teams solved clever clues and face fun challenges while navigating the urban Newcastle landscape on foot. It was a scavenger hunt, with all the thrills of the amazing race, mixed with trivial pursuit and a dash of cat-and-mouse.

Div 2 at Tea Gardens 2011

The annual Division 2 mini-convention was held over weekend 11-13 February at the Tea Gardens Hotel. The Saturday fun night was themed "Abraham Lincoln" with the menu reflection a thanksgiving dinner.

Magic Faraway Tree 2010

The Magic Faraway Tree 2010 attracted a number of families to see the magic show, have a sausage sizzle, enjoy face painting, lucky dips and cup cakes.

Changeover Dinner Sept 2010

On Friday 24th September 2010 the annual Changeover Dinner was held at The Bank Hotel. Noel was installed as President; he gave a very inspirational talk on his plans for Kiwanis East Maitland for the coming year.

Kiwanis, in conjunction with All Shook Up Dance Studio hold a ball to raise funds for Canteen and The Starlight Foundation. We had a colourful night with much fun and laughter and raised $5,000 to share between our beneficiaries.

An annual coach trip to Hunter wineries with lots of music, great food and good wines which raised much needed funds for a push chair for a child suffering seizures.

Kiwanis support Carries Place sponsored event to promote End Violence Against Women.

NAALA Christmas Party, 2008

Our contribution to the NAALA Xmas party was very well received. Kiwanis East Maitland paid for Afro Moses to perform, all of the children's presents, the food and drinks and a special Xmas cake while 3 Newcastle members manned the BBQ on the day. The party was a huge success and Kiwanis was recognized for their fine efforts.
